Burundi

Working alongside Theo from Rema Burundi, a reconciliation ministry deeply rooted in a nation scarred by genocide, has been a privilege. Rema, with its multi-country focus, sees Theo frequently guiding individuals from various conflict-ridden nations towards healing. Supported by Rema UK, which channels aid from the United Kingdom, our collaborative work has yielded remarkable outcomes.

The Hope Centre, established to provide refuge for children left homeless by the genocide and subsequent conflict, is approaching a significant milestone. Within the next year or two, we anticipate all residents will transition to independent living, equipped with qualifications to secure their livelihoods.

Our involvement in Burundi extends to several impactful projects. We supported a medical and dental clinic in Nyembye, which subsequently paved the way for four major water projects. These initiatives have brought the life-changing benefit of running water to numerous homes and schools, with the fourth project near Nyembye poised to reach even more villages.

Empowering Communities Through Faith and Health

Pastor Training

In some remote areas, especially those with tribal populations, providing schooling and theological training is difficult due to a lack of teachers, school buildings, and communication barriers posed by varying tribal languages. To empower these resilient communities and their leaders, Mission International provides comprehensive support for pastors in training. This includes spiritual counselling and guidance, theological learning resources, and practical assistance with essential items such as travel expenses and necessary equipment.

Medical & Dental Centre

Your support helps Mission International provide comprehensive care, recognising that physical wellbeing is as crucial as spiritual growth. Our long-standing commitment to a medical and dental centre ensures that vulnerable individuals receive vital healthcare services. Consider partnering with us to continue this life-changing work.

Teams

Mission International has sent Mission Teams to deliver practical dental and nursing training, aid in construction initiatives, and nurture the spiritual well-being of the community through engagement with pastors and local people.

The Big Meal

Mission International delivers the Big Meal project to children in communities across Africa, Asia, and South America. For just £3, you can give a child in Burundi the gift of a nutritious meal to be enjoyed with others, fostering a sense of community and celebration during the festive period.

Hope Centre

The Hope Centre in Burundi, supported by Mission International, focuses on empowering orphaned and vulnerable children towards independence. Beyond providing care, the centre instills responsibility through chores and teaches practical, self-sustaining skills like agriculture. The clear message is that residents won’t be reliant on aid forever; they are actively learning and working together on income-generating projects to build a sustainable future for themselves and contribute to Burundi’s rebuilding. Education remains important alongside these practical skills, ensuring a holistic development for the children.

2024 Water Project

Mission International is committed to transforming lives in Nyembye, Burundi, and a cornerstone of this work has been providing access to clean, running water. To date, four major water projects, spearheaded by Mission International, have successfully brought this essential resource directly to schools and homes in the area.

This vital initiative is dramatically improving the daily lives of families and students, enhancing sanitation, promoting better health, and creating more opportunities within the community. Children have more time for education, and families experience a greater sense of well-being.

Building on this success, Mission International is continuously looking towards the future, exploring how to expand the reach of clean water access, ensure the long-term sustainability of existing systems, and address related needs like sanitation. Our ongoing commitment is to empower the people of Nyembye with the fundamental resources they need to thrive.

Together, we are making a tangible difference, one drop at a time.
