Bangladesh

Having worked alongside our partners in the unexpectedly hilly eastern region of Bangladesh for a number of years, we’ve been deeply moved by their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity. Their work is a true blessing, from establishing multiple vibrant church communities and providing crucial education to orphaned and young people, to teaching valuable skills like blanket and scarf making that offer pathways to income and support for the vulnerable. We are acutely aware of the difficult and sometimes dangerous realities for Christians in Bangladesh, especially our courageous pastors, who often face heightened risks when challenges emerge.

A rich faith and joy in a challenging environment

Education

Some remote areas, particularly the hill tract area, an area we had the joy of going to a few years ago, has a challenging terrain and social environment, due to a mixed tribal population. Providing churches and prepared pastors, schools, especially to orphan children, can prove complicated due to a lack of teachers, school buildings, and communication barriers posed by different tribal languages. Many learn to read and write by singing, like some in the choir above.

Income Generation

We try to help local partners start up small income-generating projects so that they can provide as much as possible through their own efforts. The production of blankets, scarves, and growth of crops like mangos help to feed the poor and offer a means to earn a small income through sales.

Teams

Mission International seeks to help our local partners, although it can be challenging to deliver that help. We know it’s a moving and complex situation in the country, and we take care not to create any local issues. The Hill Tracts are a beautiful area close to the border with Myanmar, and it is our privilege to work with such dedicated brothers and sisters.

We know how much it means to the Christians in that area, who are often hard-pressed, to know there are fellow believers praying for them and also partnering with them in the gospel.

The Big Meal

Mission International delivers the Big Meal project to children in communities across Africa, Asia, and South America. For just £3, you can give a child in Bangladesh the gift of a nutritious meal to be enjoyed with others, fostering a sense of community and celebration during the festive period.
