Mission International is currently involved in a number of projects to support poor families and communities within the developing world. Our basic strategy is to find innovative ways to make our projects sustainable in cooperation with our local partners. This page will give an overview of these projects and will link you to blogs which will be updated and amended with news and information as circumstances change.
Hope Centre, Burundi:

The Hope Centre in Burundi, situated in the village of Mutimbuzi in the township of Gatumba adjacent to the main road leading from Bujumbura to DR Congo, came into being as a result of a chance meeting between Mission International’s director Hugh Henderson, who was visiting Burundi with a mission team, and Pastor Leonard Tuyishimire and his wife Jolene. When Pastor Tuyishimire told the story of how he had acquired a group of 38 orphan children during Burundi’s 13 year war and showed the team the poor conditions in which the family was living, it was clear that this was a project worthy of support. Mission International immediately began to raise money to feed the large family, since food was scarce due to flooding in the region. Mission International then set about raising the funds to build a centre to house the family in a bid to improve their living conditions. Soon after raising a large percentage of the funds required to build the Hope Centre, Charles & Val Carr contacted Mission International to say that they were seeking a place to serve as builders for a year and could Mission International help. Of course this connection was an answer to prayer and as a result the Carr family will be involved in the building of the centre.Regularly updated information on the Hope Centre Burundi can be found by clicking here.
Henderson School, Uganda:

Henderson School is situated in the village of Buremba near Mbarara in the south west of Uganda. The school services a very poor community with a strong animistic culture. There are large numbers of orphans due to the high incidence of HIV/AIDS and due to their elderly grandparents' health condition are often used to fetch water and fulfil household chores instead of going to school. Mission International has raised a considerable amount of funding required for the construction of the Henderson School and wishes to partner with Pastor Emmanuel Nnyanzi and his wife Sarah as they further develop this essential project.
Star School, Rwanda

Rev. Nathan Amooti Rusengo a Rwandan national and his wife Esther and their family relocated back to Rwanda after the 1994 Genocide. During that time in conjunction with his work as a local church pastor, Rev Amooti has been involved in the development of a school of excellence. The Star School is situated just outside Rwanda’s capital Kigali and is designed to accommodate up to 700 children.
Mighty Meals:

The Mighty Meals project was initiated after a Ugandan pastor, Rev Emmanuel Sunday from Bweyogerere Multi Purpose Primary School and his wife Florence requested help from Mission International. The town of Bweyogerere lies to the east of Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, on the main road between Kampala and Jinja. Many of the children who attend this school are orphaned for various reasons and as a result find it difficult to feed themselves never mind find the support required to complete their education. Mission International can feed a child via Mighty Meals for £25 per academic year. This means that the children can concentrate on their education instead of on the hunger in their stomachs. The children fed by Mighty Meals find that their weight, overall health and educational attainment improves when they attend this school and are fed a healthy meal each day.
Bible-A-Month Club

Many Christians within the developing world do not own a Bible. The cost, often only a few pounds, is more than they can afford and therefore they do not have access to this vital resource required to study and read in order that they can develop their walk with God. Even ministers and pastors of growing churches find it difficult to purchase a Bible. For as little as £3.00 Mission International can put this essential book into the hands of those who need it. The Bible-A-Month Club will also purchase selected study material for pastors and leaders.
Church Building Fellowship
The Church Building Fellowship makes it possible for growing and thriving churches in the developing world to have a building they can call their own and use to its greatest advantage as a community resource. Many poor communities do not have the resources to erect a church building making it necessary for them to meet out of doors under a tree for shade. If however it rains they have no place to meet and when tropical storms are in season the church is left in difficult circumstances. There are times when storm damage can tear the roof from a church building or can cause serious flooding leaving a church building in a dangerous condition. Mission International is helping such churches to fund the erection or repairs of their building allowing them a safe and comfortable place to hold their services of worship.
Small income generating projects:

Many families in the developing world require a small injection of capital to begin an income generating project. The old adage “not a hand out but a hand up” is what is intended by this Mission International scheme. There is a wide variety of needs amongst the very poorest people in communities in the developing world, and of course just as wide a variety of skills locked up in them that need to be released in order that progress towards a brighter future can be made. Mission International is offering financial and technical support in order that these families can set up income generating projects like a cow project or a goat project or even a fish farming project as a means of generating their own family income. To get started a capital injection ranging from under a hundred pounds to around a thousand pounds can make sure a poor family becomes self sustaining. Being able to produce a crop or a product to take to market can lift the family out of despair and give them the encouragement to develop their project to a place that the small business can become effective as an income generator for the family but also as a quality product offered in the community where others can also benefit.
